Surgical Strike by Indian Special Forces in POK

1.     Since 1205 hrs on 29 Sep 16 the issue which has been "dissected" by all and sundry specially in Indian Media is the declaration by Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, DGMO of Indian Army that Indian Special Forces conducted surgical strikes inside POK and neutralized terrorists and "those who supported them".  Social media is abuzz like beehive with all kinds of messages being forwarded to all and sundry. Now let me enumerate what happened thereafter:- (a)  Pakistan gave out conflicting statements ranging from flat denial of any such operations, to accepting death of two of its army personnel in cross border" firing (Do they mean LOC is now IB?) to total silence from their Defence Minister who was talking of dropping nuclear bombs on India in case of any military action by India as also Gen Sharief their COAS who retires in a few weeks. Her efforts to raise the matter in UNO have elicited absolutely no response. (b) South Asian Countries gave either thum

SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT AND FOURTH PARTY LOGISTICS

SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT AND FOURTH PARTY LOGISTICS Introduction 1.       Supply chain, on material level is defined as flow of materials through procurement, manufacture, distribution, exploitation and disposal while on human level it is an entity of people  organisation  as structures and systems delivering the desired value and goods.  Supply chain management is undergoing a paradigm change in aligning its activities, measures and customer focus.  No longer does supply chain  management  operate as mutually exclusive teams with separate sets of matrix in managing their activities.  These days successful organisations use a master strategy of “Vital three” elements – people, process and enabling technology, in addressing future growth,  organisation  transformation and  organisation  resource planning enabling initiatives.  This is more binding in view of the fact that today  organisations  operate in an environment of end to end  management , collaborations, vision and wo

INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM

Image
INTERNATIONAL TERRORISM 1.         Threat of terrorism is no longer limited to a particular country or region. It transcends international boundaries. Advance in technology and communications has extended the reach of groups and States sponsoring terrorism. Sarin gas attack in Tokyo some years ago has raised the danger of weapons of mass destruction falling into the hands of terrorists. Terrorists use electronic media to organise their subversive activities. They have access to flow of funds from abroad, including money raised through so called charitable organisations. They enjoy foreign sanctuaries. They are answerable to none. They violate international standards of human rights, and humanitarian law, with impunity. Organised terrorism as an instrument of policy by certain states is very different in scale, nature and consequences than actions of stray individuals and groups. Sustained campaign of terrorist violence is not possible without sanctuaries, training, financing, en

A THOUGHT

While stir for reservations / quota system on one side and debates on definition of nationalism / patriotism / sedition on other are hogging the nation's attention, two CRPF jawans have lost life while nine are seriously injured in J&K today safeguarding these great citizens of our great country who are hell bent of destroying it from within. A passing thought though...country's superior services who deserve better and higher protocol (read politicians, bureaucracy and judiciary) have once again failed and turned to a inferior service (read armed forces) to restore the situation for them so that they can rule the country from their higher pedestal once again.. till the time they screw it up again.. all the while when veterans are peacefully sitting at Jantar Mantar demanding their due for last one year.

TRANSITIONAL WORLD: PRESENT DAY GLOBAL SCENARIO AN ARTICLE BY ATUL KUMAR PUBLISHED IN WORLD AFFAIRS JOURNAL

TRANSITIONAL WORLD: PRESENT DAY GLOBAL SCENARIO AN ARTICLE BY ATUL KUMAR PUBLISHED IN WORLD AFFAIRS JOURNAL 1.         Already one and a half decade has passed since the end of  the  Cold War,  symbolised  by  the disintegration  of  a Super  Power, breaching  of the Berlin wall and consequent embrace  of   market economy  and  political pluralism by the ex-communist  states  in Eastern   Europe.  In Aug 1991 with the falling apart of the Soviet Union, like nine pins, the peoples witnessed the emergence of an uni-polar world where the power would now be in the hands of a single super power, at least in the near future. However, economic globalization is decentralizing power widely and regional power centres with credible military capabilities are emerging.  The  Uni-polar  Movement  which  appeared to crystallise remains valid in the strategic realm, but assertion by new  and emerging economic players like India, China, Japan  the  East Asian ‘tigers’, as also the regional
