Men, Power, Libido and Control

I have been following recent happenings in the country specially since Dec 2012 rape case with utter dismay and anguish. Despite eruption of emotions publicly and follow up with some legal fine tuning there hasn't been any change in the ground reality and very specially in the mind set. Number of rape cases keep getting reported - some with minors and even toddlers. My guess is that majority are not reported. Hardly any progress has been made in legal cases where perpetrators of this heinous crime have been apprehended. There appears to be not let up in the frequency, ferocity or spread of the menace. Another issue that I had noted earlier that heavy majority of rape, attempted rape and assault cases involve person(s) known to the victim including relations, neighbors, friends, colleagues, bosses and even fathers, has been overwhelmingly confirmed. Expressed or implied power wielded by these men and the intrinsic trust reposed by the victims on these relationships appears to giv...

कुछ ख़यालात

Her Body and My Soul have been Raped

My thoughts on recent spurt in reported rape cases:- (A) Rape is one of the most loathful crime much more than murder. It has been happening all through history though there is a definite increase in number of cases and brutality of act even after discounting hype created by constant media coverage and increased reporting by victims which wasn't the case earlier. (B) Why does rape take place? - I s it because perperator of the crime is devoid of sex - not correct as married / well to do persons who have access to normal / paid sex are also involved. - Is it because the victim is seductively dressed - not correct as girls in "decent clothes" have also been victims (dress has nothing to do with it anyway). - Is it because of frustration in the mind of perperator of crime - possibly due to cultural, financial or educational shortcomings due to imbalance in the society. - Is it because he is mentally sick - not necessary though some of them are actually m...

Civil Disobidience of 21st Century

It was 1930 if I am not mistaken when civil disobidience movement was started by Gandhiji. I think some one forgot to tell our people that after we had gained independence that we need not continue to follow the movement. why else would I see:- 1)  People jumping red lights / stopping in the middle of crossings way ahead of Stop Line, take the wrong side of the two way road, park at corners or no parking area or blow horns near hospitals / schools when these acts are punishable offences. 2)  Inside Delhi Metro people sitting on the floor of coach, playing loud music, leaning against the doors, clicking pics / making videos, sitting on seats reserved for ladies / elders when poor announcers keep telling Not to do so throughout the journey. 3)  People smoking or talking on mobiles in areas where it is banned and announced / displayed clearly. 4)  People spitting, urinating, defeacating and throwing garbage every where including from running cars when it is leg...

National Tragedy

Been thinking of writing something about loss of life and property in Uttarakhand since last few days. Don't know if I should :- 1) Salute the men / women in uniform doing amazing work, 2) Lament the Govt (Centre and state) and local administration for lack of appropriate policy and governance, 3) Empathize with people who have sufferred due to nature's wrath/ admin failure and thier own misadven tures /miscalculation / inappropriate preparation for such a journey, 4) Praise some locals and outstation people for extending moral and material support, 5) Curse those who are fleecing own countrymen by selling eatables at 5 times the cost and charging 4 times the fares 6) Join the debates in media about enviorenmental balance / judiciousness in construction of 73 dams / illegal constructions & mining / equity and participation of all stake holders etc 7) Wonder where are all those self styled Gurus who preach but are no where to be seen in extending any help to peo...

Inhuman acts by a country's army

Inhuman acts by a country's army on our jawans. We all are outraged and extremely angry. It is true that such provocations are meant to derail any normalisation between the two nations but repeated tolerance on one party's side gives an impression of incompetency - almost to the level of impotency. So while we must not get carried away in emotions and declare war which is what rogue elements in th at country (>85%) want, we HAVE to start acting to defend our self esteem as a nation. It's not about two soldiers - it's about us as a nation. What to do? - My suggestions:- 1) Punitive action on executive level for which plans surely exist keeping it below threshold of all out war / nuclear level. It will evoke response but the "danda" has to be strong and repeatitive sending the message that it is "cost ineffective" for them to engage in this kind of provocations. 2) Economic sanctions through international and regional associatio...

MY VIEWS ON ANTI GRAFT CAMPAIGN

MY VIEWS ON ANTI GRAFT CAMPAIGN August 19, 2011 at 1:33am My views on happenings in the country in last few days. Its a very complex issue with no straight answers:- - Its not Pro / Anti Hazare debate. - Its about raising voice against corruption in all its manifestations. - There is nothing white or black in this domain - they are all shades of gray - Methodology of people in question may or may not be correct but years of frustration and oppression can result in such outbursts. - corruption is all pervasive and has become a part of our souls and lives - SAD. - It can be tackled. - Only Janlokpal Bill CANNOT solve the issue - be it Govt's or Anna's version. - We can start by changing ourselves FIRST and becoming uncorruptible. - Carrot and Stick will work. - Bring reforms in elections, police, judiciary, education, taxation and procurement - Autonomous body / bodies be made / reorganized (CBI/ CVC) to monitor, deter and punish defaulters - Let the prese...
